: West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury claimed here on Sunday that the BJP was trying to use Trinamool Congress (TMC) general secretary Mukul Roy to “break” the TMC.
“My personal belief is that it is for this reason the BJP is going slow with Mr. Roy,” Mr. Chowdhury told reporters. He also claimed that the “chances of a secret understanding between Mr. Roy and the BJP are very high.”
Mr. Chowdhury claimed the infighting in TMC would increase in future, and said that the “party was on the verge of falling apart.”
Taking a dig at Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Mr. Chowdhury said that “perhaps she has realised this and hence is trying to keep her flock together.”
Mr. Roy was interrogated by the CBI on January 30 in connection with the multi-crore Saradha scam. He had repeatedly assured full cooperation with the CBI.
Mr. Roy’s statement that “justice should not be denied” to those who have lost their savings in the scam ran contrary to TMC’s stand that the CBI was being used as a ‘political tool’ by the BJP-led government at the Centre.
