The Bharatiya Janata Party plans to hold a demonstration outside Talkatora Stadium where the Delhi Government will launch its much-touted food security programme on Tuesday. Delhi BJP chief Vijay Goel on Monday said since the Public Distribution System (PDS) in the Capital is in shambles, the Delhi Government is in no position to implement the scheme.
“There is confusion over the identification of beneficiaries. Aadhar and rations cards are already there, and now there is talk about issuing smart cards for this scheme! Who will issue these smart cards? How will they be issued?” he asked.
Mr. Goel pointed out that while the existing schemes, implemented through PDS, entitle beneficiary families to 35 kg of food grains, the food security scheme may actually reduce the quantity of food-grains as the scheme is person-based and considers an average household to comprise five members.
