BJP protests against remarks by Congress councillor

May 26, 2010 04:14 pm | Updated 04:14 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

Delhi BJP president Vijender Gupta on Tuesday led a demonstration towards the residence of UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi in protest against some comments allegedly made by Leader of Opposition in MCD House Jai Kishan Sharma against Yogendra Chandolia, who belongs to the Dalit community, during a meeting on Monday.

The protestors, including a number of BJP councillors, Leader of MCD House Subhash Arya, and BJP Scheduled Castes Morcha members, were arrested by the Delhi Police before they could reach anywhere close to the residence of Ms. Gandhi. They were then taken to the Parliament Street police station and later released.

The BJP members had accused Mr. Sharma of making uncharitable remarks against Mr. Chandolia, while the Congress had accused the BJP of misbehaving with a Muslim councillor, Nafisa Khatoon.
