Having lost an ‘opportunity’ last year to wrest power in the Capital after a 15 year wait, ‘micro-management’ and ‘knock-at-every-door’ strategy have become the guiding lights for the Bharatiya Janata Party to ensure ‘Delhi Vijay’ in the upcoming Assembly elections.
While the BJP failed to form government in Delhi as it fell short of simple majority by four seats, the party is gearing up for the polls likely to be held early next year with “Mission 60”— to win all the Assembly segments where it registered leads in the Lok Sabha polls.
The party has already announced that it would continue with its ‘successful’ political strategy of contesting Assembly election with a collective leadership, besides using the ‘goodwill’ of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The party has formulated around 550 Shakti Kendras across the city. These are largely clusters of polling centres clubbed into groups. Workers attached to each of these centres are led by senior party leaders. They will have the responsibility of ensuring that the party reaches out to every voter, sources said.
Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay and party MPs attended the meeting on Sunday. “Even in the past, the party has focussed on booth management. However, this time the effort is to reach out to every voter, if possible on several occasions, and convince them to vote for the BJP. For this, the party plans to allot responsibility of reaching out to around 20-25 voters instead of 20-25 households as was done earlier,” a senior party leader said. The insiders said a call centre is in the offing that would take feedbacks from random voters and alert the workers about it. “The calls made to the voters would also help in monitoring the workers who have been assigned the job to reach out to respective voters,” a party leader said.
The Samvad Cell, the social media wing of the Delhi BJP, has launched a campaign on Twitter with #DelhiNeedsBJP inviting people to join the campaign to bring back BJP to power.
