A delegation of all the BJP legislators in Delhi, led by Leader of the Opposition V. K. Malhotra, met President Pranab Mukherjee on Sunday and submitted a memorandum requesting him to direct Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit to resign or to dismiss her government in view of the damning indictment of her government and her by Delhi Lokayukta Manmohan Sarin.
Speaking after submitting the memorandum, Prof. Malhotra said that after large-scale campaigns and protests across the country, the Prime Minister and his Cabinet colleagues had mouthed platitudes about how an effective and strong Lokpal Bill would be brought forth and that the office of the Lokayuktas would be strengthened and their decisions implemented without fear or favour.
But after Justice Sarin indicted Ms. Dikshit along with other Ministers over serious issues earlier, he lamented that the matter was referred by the President to the Union Home Ministry which in turn sent it back to the Delhi Government. “In this roundabout way the decisions remain unimplemented and usually get relegated to the waste basket,” Prof. Malhotra said adding that the Lokayukta had gone as far as saying that the President has not been advised correctly,” and had also demanded to know why the President had chosen to override his recommendations.
Now, the BJP leader said, the Lokayukta has again sent a recommendation to the President on May 22. He adjudicated that the Chief Minister was guilty of misusing public funds for personal aggrandisement and misrepresentation of achievements in context of party promotion and fined her to the tune of Rs.11 crore.
Prof. Malhotra said that in view of being repeatedly found to be in violation by the Lokayukta, the Chief Minsiter Delhi should have resigned from her post on moral and legal grounds. He said the delegation has requested the President to take cognizance of the Lokayukta’s recommendation and take an informed decision on the matter.
Meanwhile, Delhi BJP president Vijay Goel on Sunday demanded that the Delhi Government should immediately take off its advertisements from all the hoardings in the city as hard earned money of taxpayers was being spent on them.
Demanding that the Delhi Government reveal how much money has been spent by it on these hoardings, which carried ‘political advertisements’, he cautioned that if this was not done within the next three days, then Delhi Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha workers will paste posters on these hoardings carrying the message – “Don’t Misuse Public Money on these Hoardings for False Propaganda.”
