After contesting the 2013 Delhi Assembly elections on an Aam Aadmi Party ticket from Wazirpur, actor Praveen Kumar, popularly known for essaying the role of Bheem in the Mahabharat series, joined the Narendra Modi camp on Thursday.
On whether he will use his character name ‘Bheem’ to campaign for the BJP, he said: “I will campaign the way I am.”
“I felt the AAP used me. I was not interested in joining politics, but the AAP insisted I join them and contest elections,” he said after Delhi BJP chief Harsh Vardhan welcomed him to the party.
“When the AAP formed the government, I saw the entire episode unfold in front of me. It took me 15-20 days to analyse the way it works before leaving the party.”
“The country requires a strong leader and a strong party,” he said when asked about his decision to join the BJP. “The BJP is like the Pandavas, all Opposition parties like the Kauravas,” said Mr. Kumar.
Referring to AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, he said: “He only believes in telling lies. He prays to god everyday to give him the strength to tell lies.” Mr. Kumar lost the Wazirpur seat to BJP’s Mahender Nagpal, who had a lead of over 5,000 votes.
