July 31, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 08:26 am IST - BHUBANESWAR:

The Aam Aadmi Party, Odisha, on Saturday alleged about 70 acres of land were acquired on false promise by one NGO, Helpline, run by daughter of the BJP leader in State Assembly K. V. Singhdeo.

The AAP also accused Mr. Singhdeo of also contributing Rs. 2 lakh to the NGO violating existing norms from his MLA Local Area Development Fund.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, AAP leader Nishikant Mohapatra said the Helpline, Bolangir, whose president is Nivritti Kumari, daughter of Mr. Singhdeo, had acquired land close to 70 acres in the name of establishment of a Krishi Vigyan Kendra, a Hospital and a college.

According to documents produced by the AAP, Odisha, before media persons, one Pratap Kumar Pradhan in capacity of Helpline, Bolangir, secretary had promised to provide jobs in Krishi Vigyan Kendra to villagers in lieu of acquisition of land in Ghasian village of Bolangir district.

Mr. Mohapatra said the NGO was set set up in 2008 and as the NGO was only two-year-old it was not eligible for availing any government assistance. “But Mr. Singhdeo had contributed Rs. 2 lakh from MLA LAD fund for his daughter’s NGO violating existing norms,” he alleged.

None of the three institutes, which were promised to be set up by Helpline NGO, had been made operational, AAP leader accused.

When contacted, Mr. Singhdeo said there were no false promises doled out and land transactions were carried out as per revenue laws. The allegations were baseless, he said.
