Delhi ex-MLA cleared of rape charge

Former member of the Delhi Legislative Assembly and the chairman of the Vivekananda Institute of Professional Studies (VIPS) S.C. Vats has been cleared of the charge of rape levelled against him by an assistant professor at the institute.The court of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate in Delhi delivered the verdict on January 2018 on a case registered at the Maurya Enclave police station. The case was registered in February 2015.The woman, in her complaint to the police, had alleged that Mr. Vats had hired her over a year ago without asking for her documents. The woman, who hails from Bihar, joined VIPS in July 2013 as an assistant professor. The woman had alleged that she was sexually assaulted in his cabin in October 2013.
