A Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party delegation called on Delhi Police Commissioner B.S. Bassi on Thursday to discuss the law and order situation in the city.
Raising its concerns, the delegation led by party chief Vijay Goel asked Mr. Bassi if the State Government and the police have regular meetings to monitor the law and order situation. “There is supposed to be a mechanism in place for regular meetings between the Delhi Government and the police for monitoring the law and order. We would like to know whether such meetings are happening, and if so their outcome.”
According to BJP chief, Mr. Bassi informed the delegation that the police were constantly in touch with the State Government and there was no communication gap between the two.
However, in a statement, the party said the Commissioner’s response “dispels the false propaganda of the Congress Government” and was in “sharp contrast to the statements made by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, who has often complained that the Delhi Police does not pay heed to her concerns”.
It was also emphasised during the meeting that the communication between the beat-level police officers and the people needed to be improved. The BJP leaders said police personnel should be provided with the best vehicles, modern arms and ammunition, latest communication gadgets and mobile phones in order to keep a strict vigil in the city.
