Three Bharatiya Janata Party municipal councillors and their supporters have been accused of vandalising an event venue and clashing with Congress workers at Jagatram Park in East Delhi on Saturday. Two persons sustained head injuries.
“Area residents besides Congress supporters had gathered at Jagatram Park for the inauguration of a sewer-line by Delhi Health Minister Dr. Ashok Kumar Walia when the incident took place around 3-30 p.m. Dr. Walia was yet to arrive when three BJP councillors reached there along with their supporters,” said a police officer.
Shouting slogans, they waved black flags at the Congress leaders who had gathered there for the event and allegedly disrupted the public meeting. The situation soon went out of control and they allegedly attacked some persons in the gathering, leaving two of them injured. The injured were taken to a hospital.
Based on a complaint, the police have registered a case of rioting and are trying to identify those involved in the violence.
