he political poster war has begun and the BJP, as promised, is out with its “pol-khol” advertisement campaign to counter that of the Aam Aadmi Party government’s.

Pegging on the Delhi government’s allocation of Rs.526 crore for publicity, the BJP, through its satirical ads, has offered suggestions on how Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal could have put the money to better use.

The heavily texted ad put up in East Delhi by Delhi BJP vice-president Kuljeet Singh Chahal, reads, “Kejriwal Sir, please answer. Why has public money worth Rs.526 crore been spent on your own publicity? In Rs.526 crore, five lakh CCTV cameras for women’s security can be installed, 200 schools and 50 colleges can be opened, 2,000 new buses and 1,000 unauthorized colonies can get water, five lakh families can get pension for one year and one lakh youths can get employed”.

In fact, Mr. Chahal has offered so many suggestions in just one advertisement that six bullet points barely manage to squeeze into the poster.

A second poster has been put up in West Delhi by Raj Babbar, who is the spokesperson of Delhi BJP. While Mr. Babbar too over-crowds his ads with a lot of texts, he highlights the issues faced by the city.

“Chief Minister Sir, devote two hours in any SDM office. No work happens without a bribe there. Please devote two hours towards social welfare. Senior citizens are tired of waiting in queues for pensions,” the poster reads. It adds , “I know AAP (you) are busy spending away Rs.526. If it’s becoming difficult for you to handle then please hand over the Delhi Jal Board, Social Welfare and PWD to me. I will correct it all.”

Another ad has been put up in old Delhi by BJP’s media co-ordinator Praveen Shankar Kapoor.

The AAP government had left no stone unturned in hitting out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung. The AAP posters targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying, “Prime Minister Sir, please, let Delhi government work. Delhi government is working fine.”

In television ads, meanwhile, Mr. Kejriwal can be seen pleading with the PM, asking him to give the control of the Delhi Police to the State government.
