BJP accuses Congress of double standards on anti-Sikh riot cases

Silence of Cong leaders has offended Sikh community: BJP

April 01, 2017 11:24 pm | Updated 11:24 pm IST - New Delhi

The BJP on Saturday alleged that the Congress was hindering investigations into the 1984 anti-Sikh riot cases while at the same time projecting its newly sworn-in Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh as a “Sikh leader”.

BJP National Secretary Sardar R. P. Singh said it was “regrettable” that after coming to power Captain Amarinder appeared to be supporting “anti-Sikh Congress leaders like Jagdish Tytler and Sajjan Kumar”.

“Mr. Tytler has refused to undergo a lie detector saying it would be torture. This shows the climax of his insensitivity,” Mr. Singh said, adding that the “silence of the Congress leaders on this statement” has “offended the entire Sikh community”.

BJP vice-president Sardar Kulwant Singh Bath said the party had formed an SIT in 2014, which re-investigated some cases, and hoped that the probes would “reach a stage where it will be difficult for Mr. Tytler to escape”.
