On a day when Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi called Delhi a city of migrants, Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party president Vijay Goel accused the ruling party of being anti-migrant.
Holding public meetings in support of his party candidates contesting elections from two constituencies in North-West Delhi, Mr. Goel on Sunday said in the past Delhi Chief Minister and Union Home Minister blamed “migrants for the rising crimes in Delhi”.
“The Congress Government of Delhi has been biased against the migrants living in unauthorised colonies. The government also creates obstacles for Municipal Corporations in carrying out development works in these colonies,” he alleged.
Mr. Goel also questioned the Congress leader’s statement on Delhi being a world-class city as one which was far from ground realities. Referring to a report prepared by the Union Urban Development Ministry, according to which Delhi had failed on basic urbanisation parameters, he advised Mr. Gandhi to not depend on the figures provided by the Delhi Government.
“Congress vice-president should not depend on the incorrect and misleading figures supplied by the Delhi government. It has failed in providing electricity and drinking water,” he said.
