Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Thursday trashed the results of opinion polls which have predicted a BJP victory in the December 4 Assembly elections, saying they do not reflect the ground realities as people will not vote for BJP and AAP, which were “misleading” them.

“The opinion polls do not have any basis. We are confident of our victory. People are not going to be misled by BJP and AAP. I am not at all worried,” Ms. Dikshit said when asked about the opinion polls giving an edge to BJP.

Asked about the result of an opinion poll which said AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal was likely to humble her in the New Delhi seat, Dikshit said these surveys are not conducted in a “transparent way”.

“I do not think the opinion polls reflect the ground realities. On what basis did they arrive at such a conclusion. I have my doubts,” she said.

Asked whether Congress would take support from AAP if it were to fall short of majority, Ms. Dikshit said people will give her party a “clear mandate” as they know the value of their votes.

“I am sure people will give a clear mandate. We are going to win the polls. We are working hard,” she said.

But pressed for her views on whether she would consider seeking AAP’s support if Congress did not win majority, she said, “I will be able to answer the question when the situation comes.”

She said people of the city will support Congress as it has performed efficiently in the last 15 years.

“We have worked very hard in the last 15 years. So, I am confident of the people’s support for Congress,” she said.

Asked whether Prime Minister Manmohan Singh would campaign in Delhi, Ms. Dikshit said he was on a very tight schedule and may not find the time to address any rallies here.

Congress leaders had earlier said that Dr. Singh would address at least one rally in the city.

Asked to comment on AAP, Ms. Dikshit said that the recent sting operation on the party’s candidates had shown “the dark image” of Arvind Kejriwal.
