The biometric issue has reared its ugly head again in Delhi University. This when most of the teachers want to wish it away.
“The latest news is that the university was slapped with a contempt order from the court asking them to implement this,” said Executive Council member Aditya Misra, who was part of a delegation of teachers which met the Vice-Chancellor asking him to try and fight the case in court so as to prevent this from being implemented.
If the biometric system is implemented, teachers will be “hounded and victimised,” and the character of higher education will be changed for the worse, said Dr. Misra, adding that the principals might also take advantage of this issue while dealing with teachers. Under the new system, the teachers are also expected to take attendance of students and submit monthly reports.
The teachers want the university to explain this position to the court but sources in the university said that it was no longer possible to hold this issue and that their hands were tied.
