A woman was allegedly molested by two bikers outside a five-star hotel in Lutyens’ Delhi on December 16 and one of the accused was arrested on the spot, the police said on Tuesday.

The second accused is still absconding.

The incident happened outside Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts here while the victim and her friend were waiting for a cab early on December 1.

“The women were standing outside the hotel gates when the accused stopped next to them.” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) B.K. Singh.

Victims took on bikers

“The pillion rider made inappropriate gestures and passed lewd remarks. One of the women reacted to his remarks, following which the duo parked the bike and molested her. However, both the women took on the bikers,” he added.

“A patrolling policeman driving past on a bike spotted the accused and the women fighting. One biker fled without his accomplice, who was arrested, on seeing the policeman,” said Mr. Singh, adding that only one woman was molested and has been named as the victim in the case.

“We have registered a case under Sections 354 [molestation] and 506 [outraging the modesty of a woman] of the Indian Penal Code. The second accused has been identified and we are trying to track him down,” said Mr. Singh.
