Rotary, an organisation which provides humanitarian service and helps to build goodwill and peace, organised an inter-school short play competition called “ Jal hai to kal hai” on Friday, recognising the fact that many districts in the country are facing unprecedented drought or irregular rainfall which were destroying crops and livelihoods of farmers. The competition was conducted to spread awareness among students about the importance of water conservation.
The event was attended by some of the leading stakeholders in the field of water conservation, including Harish Rawat, Union Minister for Water Resources; Shigery Aoyagi, Director (South-East Asia) UNESCO; Ramesh Agarwal, Rotary District 3010 Governor; Vineet Joshi, CBSE Chairman; Pramod Sharma, educationist; and acclaimed actors Sushma Seth and Shivani Wazir Pasrich.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Rawat said: “India is a water-stressed nation which needs its citizens to realise the importance of water conservation to ensure that there is abundant water available for everyone in the country”.
Indicating the objective of the event, Mr. Aoyagi said that, “one of the biggest injustices we have done to this country is to make it water scarce.’’
