Claiming that the Delhi Government has already started taking measures to increase water supply to the Capital, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Tuesday he would soon be meeting Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda over releasing water for the Munak Canal that would help in the supply to several areas in West Delhi.
“I have written to the Haryana Chief Minister, seeking time to discuss the issue related to Munak Canal. I would be meeting him as soon as he gives time,” Mr. Kejriwal told media after the last day of the first session of the Fifth Legislative Assembly.
The Chief Minister also played down the controversy over Law Minister Somnath Bharti allegedly giving a dressing down to the Law Secretary for not convening a meeting of the judges with him. “I have sought time with the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court. Had to meet him at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, but could not go because the session extended beyond time. I would be meeting him soon along with the Law Minister and clarify everything. We respect the independence of judiciary and would always work under the guidance of the Chief Justice,” Mr. Kejriwal said.
Earlier, several legislators raised the issue of the Law Minister in the House and criticised him stating such action amount to “breach of independence of judiciary”.
“He told the Law Secretary you are acting in collusion with the previous government. But he should remember that the Law Secretary is chosen from a panel provided by the Chief Justice himself. I don’t know whether he is aware of the rules or not, but it clearly compromises with the principle of separation of power, which is the essence of democracy,” said Congress Legislative Party leader Haroon Yusuf.
The member also criticised some of the AAP legislators and Ministers for “behaving in an arrogant manner while the Aam Aadmi Party has been claiming that they want to end the VIP culture”.
