Betting racket busted, three bookies held in North Delhi

March 31, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:33 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Within days of the Delhi Police busting a betting syndicate operating from the Capital, another similar racket during the cricket world cup final match between New Zealand and Australia on Sunday, has been exposed.

Three bookies were arrested in connection with the latest betting racket being operated from North Delhi. They have been identified as Amit, Gaurav and Mohit.

The total amount betted till the time of the raid on the day of the final match was Rs. 75 lakh, the police said on Monday.

According to the police, nine mobile phones, one TV set, and a laptop were recovered from the bookies.

The police had learnt that betting would go on at a house in Old Sabzi Mandi’s Gali Thane Wali. A policeman entered the house as a decoy punter and placed a bet of Rs. 1,500 before signalling other members of the team.

The three men were arrested even as they were noting down the betting rates being communicated to them over one central phone known as dabba.
