Among the 11 State universities in Odisha, Berhampur University became the first university to get ‘A’ grade from National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) of the University Grants Commission (UGC).
It may be noted that till now only one private university in Odisha had received ‘A’ grade from NAAC and no State university had achieved this grade.
Berhampur University Vice-Chancellor Depak Kumar Behera termed this a great achievement as no other State university in Odisha has been able to get this coveted grade. The news of ‘A’ grade accreditation was celebrated on the university campus with a meeting which was attended by students, teachers and staff.
The NAAC report announcing ‘A’ grade was read out and discussed in the meeting.
In April, a NAAC team had arrived at Berhampur University and made detail survey of its infrastructure and study atmosphere. In 2002, NAAC had accorded ‘B’ grade to Berhampur University. Speaking to The Hindu , University Post-Graduate Council chairman Prashant Padhi said this suggests that the university is progressing with the change of time.
In its report, NAAC has praised administration, financial management, admission and examination procedure, utilisation of allocated funds etc. But the NAAC report has also stated that e-governance and e-library projects were in nascent stage in Berhampur University. “So, we have decided to make these two our immediate thrust areas of development,” said Prof. Padhi.
