Bapi and his lotus umbrella

May 27, 2014 09:14 am | Updated May 23, 2016 06:45 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

Bapi Bhattacharya stood at Vijay Chowk on Monday afternoon under his lotus-shaped umbrella till a cop came up and asked him to leave. “I couldn’t get passes for Modiji’s swearing-in ceremony so I thought I would find a nice spot from where I can see what is happening,” he said.

A week ago, he travelled from Chas in Jharkhand to the Capital and decided to stay with his friend in Delhi Cantonment. It took him nearly 15 days to make the large saffron and green umbrella shaped like a lotus and prepare his clothes -- a shirt and three-fourths pants equally made of saffron and green.

Having been asked to leave from Vijay Chowk , Mr. Bhattacharya and his friend Sameer, were then seen walking along the road near the Udyog Bhavan metro station to find some other place to park themselves.
