In the wake of intervention by the Haryana State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (HSCPCR), the Faridabad police on Friday added Sections under the Bonded Labour System (Abolition) Act and the Indian Penal Code in the First Information Report pertaining to a case of alleged torture of a minor domestic help by her female employer in Kanishka Towers here. Accused Sneha, an engineering student, has been granted bail by a local court.
HSCPCR member B.K. Goel, who met the victim and visited the building, said: “The police were directed to add relevant Sections to the FIR keeping in view the severity of the case. Besides Section 79 of the Juvenile Justice Act, they have now added Section 75 of the JJ Act, Sections under the Bonded Labour Act and the IPC.” He said the police will challenge the bail to the accused in the sessions court.
Multiple fractures
Mr. Goel said the 13-year-old, who was rescued on Wednesday, has been admitted to the civil hospital here. “She suffered multiple fractures over two years due to constant thrashing but her injuries healed naturally leading to deformation. She has been given police protection,” he said.
The girl, who was allegedly tortured by Ms. Sneha for the past two years, slipped from 11th floor of the building in Sector 34 here on Wednesday while trying to escape, got trapped in a net meant to keep birds away and landed on the 10th floor.
In her statement to HSCPCR, she claimed Ms. Sneha would often tie her limbs and cover her mouth with a polythene bag, and would untie her only after she fell unconscious.
Recalling the sequence of events, she told the panel that Ms. Sneha had beaten her up the previous night. Stating that she vomited after the thrashing, the girl claimed she was forced to do household chores the next morning. While Ms. Sneha was in the washroom, the girl tried to escape from the balcony. “ Didi saw me and tried to catch me but I slipped and fell on the 10th floor,” she said in her statement.
Meanwhile, the DVR containing CCTV footage from the accused’s flat has gone missing. Faridabad Police Commissioner Hanif Qureshi said the police have enough evidence in the form of statements by the residents and guards.
