A Delhi court has refused to grant bail to a man who was arrested for carrying alleged cow meat in a car.
Dismissing the bail application of accused Mohammad Naushad, Special Judge Kamini Lau said, “The allegations involved are with regard to recovery of slaughtered cow in a car. The act has the potential to disturb peace and adversely affecting communal harmony arousing religious sentiments in society.”
“The co-accused are still at large. This being the background and keeping in view the seriousness of the offence, no ground is made out. The bail application of the accused Mohammad Naushad is hereby dismissed,” Ms. Lau said.
In his bail application, accused through his counsel argued that he had nothing to do with the commission of the offence and alleged recovery was planted by the police.
Arrested in April
Further submitting that Naushad had been implicated in the case, his lawyer said that he was no more required for any investigation as probe was complete and charge sheet had already been filed.
The Gulabi Bagh police in north Delhi had arrested the accused in the small hours this past April when he along with two other persons were seen pushing a car in which the alleged slaughtered cow was kept.
When an ASI along with other policemen on night duty in the area proceeded towards the vehicle, all the three persons tried to run away but they managed to catch hold of Naushad, the police said. On inspection, the police found a chopped up cow in the car, the prosecution further alleged.
