A 30-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her husband over suspicions of an illicit relationship in south-east Delhi’s Badarpur on Saturday.

Minakshi was allegedly attacked with a cylinder after being brutally thrashed by her husband Praveen. He has been arrested. The incident happened at the victim’s parents’ house, where she had been staying with her children.

Son a witness

The couple’s younger son, who was a witness to the murder along with his elder brother, said his father slit his mother’s throat and then bludgeoned her with a cylinder.

“My father slit my mother’s throat, and then hit her thrice with a cylinder. We couldn’t ask for help as he had locked us up in a room,” said the boy. A neighbour informed the police, after which a team rushed to the spot and found Minakshi dead.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (south-east) Romil Baaniya said Praveen suspected Minakshi of having an illicit affair.

“An argument broke out between the couple over this issue on Saturday, after which he attacked her,” said Mr Baaniya. The family lives in Molarband village. A neighbour, who did not wish to be named, alleged that Praveen would regularly thrash Minakshi after getting drunk. He would also often stay at her parents’ house and did not have a permanent job.

The police have registered a case under Section 302 (punishment for murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
