Baby’s autopsy suggests death due to injuries

An FIR has been registered in connection with the death of a six-month-old baby in Shakur Basti during the demolition drive on Saturday even as the police claimed that the death and demolition were totally unrelated incidents.

The FIR under Indian Penal Code section 304A, pertaining to causing death by negligence, was registered against unknown persons on Monday at Punjabi Bagh police station.

The autopsy report of the child suggested that she died of shock as a result of chest and head injury due to a blunt force impact and that the injuries were caused before her death.

The child’s parents had alleged that she died after a bundle of clothes fell over her while the family members were hurriedly trying to collect their belongings before their homes were bulldozed.

Joint CP (South-Western Range) Dependra Pathak claimed that there was at least two-and-a-half-hours interval between the child’s death and the demolition, thus making them unrelated incidents.

According to the autopsy report, the baby died approximately 30 hours before the post-mortem was conducted, which means the time of death was around 9 am and not during the demolition, said Mr. Pathak.
