Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Tuesday met the five young men who had averted a disaster last week by alerting the Delhi Police about flames emanating from the engine of an aircraft that had just taken off from IGI Airport.
The aircraft was carrying around 350 passengers and crew.
Lauding the alertness of the youth, whom she met at Delhi Secretariat, the Chief Minister announced that each one of them would be awarded with a cash prize of Rs.50,000 besides a certificate for contributing to the society's welfare.
These youth will be facilitated at the Independence Day function at Chhatrasal Stadium.
During the interaction, the five youth -- Karthik Bhadolia, Jaideep Gosai, Himansu Soni, Manan Soni and Moulik Jhelani – narrated the entire incident to the Chief Minister. Ms. Dikshit later said that Delhi was proud to have such youngsters .
Ms. Dikshit lauded these youth for their swift action and alarm on Saturday which was responded to by the Delhi Police with great alacrity. Subsequently, the air traffic control (ATC) cleared the runway for the New York-bound Air India plane AI-101 to return to base and land safely under full emergency conditions.
