Armed robbers allegedly robbed an Audi Q7 car after abducting the driver of former Additional Solicitor General of India Vikas Singh from the posh South Extension in the early hours of Sunday.

Purchased only three months ago, the SUV belongs to Mr. Singh’s son Venkatesh, who is an advocate practicing in the Supreme Court. At the time of filing this report, the police said they did not have any substantial clues about the robbers or the whereabouts of the vehicle.

The incident took place in the South Extension market while the car owner and his friends were on a visit to a restaurant for dinner.

Around 1 a.m., driver Ravi saw Venkatesh coming out of the restaurant and started driving the vehicle towards the restaurant.

Just as Ravi opened the driver’s side of the door, he was kicked from behind by a man who forced him into the car and followed inside. “Three other men entered the car. One of them pointed a pistol at me and threatened to kill me,” alleged Ravi.

He was allegedly assaulted with the pistol’s butt, driven several kilometres in the city for the next two hours before being dumped at an isolated location in West Delhi’s Jwala Heri. The assailants had also taken away his mobile phone, he alleged.

Jurisdiction issue

Ravi alleged he walked for almost a kilometre after that, profusely bleeding from his head, but no one helped him despite repeated requests to passers-by and private security guards outside buildings.

Finally, two policemen on a motorcycle approached him, and led him to the spot where he was dumped. But, the policemen soon realised that the area was not under their jurisdiction.

The complainant was then dropped by the two policemen near Mianwali Nagar police station and told to approach the personnel there. “I used the landline phone at the police station to contact my employer,” said Ravi.

Venkatesh had already contacted the local police. The police had registered his complaint and were trying to track the vehicle, but to no avail.

Meanwhile, the police at Mianwali Nagar police station took him to Kotla Mubarakpur police station in South Delhi since the area falls under its jurisdiction.

It was then that a case in this connection was registered and the victim admitted to AIIMS Trauma Centre where he required several stitches for the cuts on his face.
