The Aam Aadmi Party targeted Delhi Lieutenant- Governor Najeeb Jung yet again on Thursday, accusing him of not disclosing his previous association with the Mukesh Ambani-headed Reliance Industries.

Stating that the Lieutenant-Governor had a busy schedule owing to the Governors’ meeting called by the President, L-G House sources said he was not aware of the allegations made by the AAP and, if required, he would respond at a proper time.

AAP spokesperson Ashutosh raked up the issue two days after the Delhi Government ordered registration of an FIR against Mr. Ambani, RIL and Petroleum Minister Veerappa Moily, besides former minister Murli Deora.

Stating that Mr. Jung had worked with the Ambanis in the past, Mr. Ashutosh questioned the Lieutenant-Governor for not putting the information in public domain. “Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung had worked with the Ambanis in London, in India, and was part of a think tank. Why were these facts not posted on his official website,” he posted on his Twitter account.

“A reporter asked a question to the Delhi CM – ‘Has Delhi L-G Najeeb Jung ever worked for Reliance?’ The nation deserves an answer from Mr. Jung. Is it true that Mr. Jung worked for Reliance? Is this rumour true that his brother was the campaign agent for Kapil Sibal in Chandni Chauk,” the AAP leader had earlier tweeted.

Talking to The Hindu, Mr. Ashutosh “summed up” Mr. Jung’s career. “Mr. Jung was the joint secretary (exploration) in the Union Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas when privatisation of the Panna-Mukta oil fields took place and the contracts were given to Reliance-led Consortium. Later, a CBI inquiry revealed that some important files related to the case mysteriously went missing. Then Mr. Jung resigns from the IAS and goes to London for an academic stint and later joins Reliance there to look after its European operations.”

“He comes back to Delhi and joins Reliance Global Management Services Ltd, joins the Reliance-funded Observer Research Foundation before being selected as the Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Millia University in the Capital,” added the AAP leader.

“Now, I am asking a very simple question that why were all these details not mentioned in his official bio? Initially, Mr. Jung said very nice things about the Arvind Kejriwal Government. Why is it that Mr. Jung’s attitude became confrontational since the Delhi Government ordered a CAG audit of the Reliance-backed power distribution companies? Is it just coincidental or somewhere related to his association with Reliance?” he asked.
