Lift shafts at stations on the upcoming Majlis Park-Shiv Vihar corridor of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will be decorated with artwork, the corporation announced on Wednesday.
Lift shafts — the external portion of the lift which are visible — at 11 metro stations on the line will boast unique art installations to enhance the look of the stations.
Nature themes
These stations are Netaji Subhash Place, Shalimar Bagh, Narayana, Bhikaji Cama Place, Sarojini Nagar, South Extension, INA, Lajpat Nagar, Vinobha Puri, Nizamuddin and Ashram.
“Digital glass prints will be installed on all lift shafts. According to the design of the Delhi Metro’s stations, the entire shaft area of the lift is exposed at the stations from all directions. The artwork will cover the exposed portions. All these lifts run from the ground to concourse, and concourse to platform levels of these underground stations,” the DMRC statement read.
The statement added that themes of these installations were inspired by nature, Indian classical dance forms and geometric patterns.
Station’s aesthetics
“The Delhi Metro always endeavours to design its stations in an aesthetic manner. Art works and installations have been installed at many of the metro’s stations. In Phase 2, the lift shaft at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium Metro station was decorated with artworks,” the Metro said.
At the DMRC’s recently opened Heritage Line (from Kashmere Gate to Delhi Gate), all station have art installations that tell the story of the rich heritage associated with that particular station.
Even the upcoming Botanical Garden-Kalkaji Mandir section will boast artworks, the DMRC said.
