Power distribution company BYPL has launched two new SMS-based services for its consumers. The services will allow the customers to register supply complaints and access their bills and other payment details through SMS.

According to a company spokesperson, both services are being launched for consumers with single phase meters, which is about 80 per cent of their 11 lakh consumer base. “Soon the service will also be launched for BRPL consumers in South and West Delhi,” the spokesperson added.

BYPL Chief Executive Officer Ramesh Narayanan said: “The company’s modern call centre is sometimes under pressure during the summer months and at times callers have had to wait for a while before being put through to an agent. In a bid to redress the issue, the SMS service has been launched”.

“Under this service, a consumer’s SMS will first reach the central server which will generate a return acknowledgement and simultaneously route the SMS to the division and official concerned,” added Mr. Narayanan.

To get bill and payment details, consumers will have to SMS their CRN number to 5545464 for registering their complaint regarding power supply; they will have to SMS the fault to the same number.

“Even in an unlikely event of an outage, a consumer doesn’t have to call the company for registering their power supply complaints related to no current, voltage fluctuation and no supply because of a meter issue. All they have to do is SMS the fault and the complaint will be registered,” the spokesperson said.
