The Association of Healthcare Providers India (AHPI) on Sunday appealed to the Delhi government to restore the licence of Max Hospital, Shalimar Bagh.
The AHPI said, “The incident has come as a shock to the entire healthcare industry, as in this particular case the doctors missed protocol before declaring the foetus dead. To that extent, it amounts to... committing a medical error. However, the hospital has taken appropriate action against the doctor and the case has been referred to the Delhi Medical Council, which is the authorised body to investigate and take disciplinary action against the doctors as it deems fit.”
It added that cancelling the licence of the entire hospital was too harsh as medical error is quite common across the world.
Regulatory authorities
“There is an established system to take corrective and preventive action by the hospital management and regulatory authorities whenever such errors are reported. Necessary corrective measures have been initiated in this case. Cancellation of the hospital’s licence can only be resorted to if it is established that the hospital as a system has completely failed in regulatory compliance, as defined in Delhi Nursing Home Act,” the AHPI said .
The panel said the government may constitute a committee, comprising members from the government, medical associations and civil society, to assess the compliance with the Delhi Nursing Home Act.
