Delhi International Airport Limited has conducted an anti-tobacco chewing campaign at Indira Gandhi International Airport here to brief the airport community about the health hazards associated with the habit and also to have a cleaner airport.
The programme, which was held from May 17 to 31, was specially designed for the housekeeping staff, loaders, car park attendants, trolley pushers and taxi drivers and urged them to quit tobacco chewing.
Using the motto “Don't chew what chews you”, the drive tried to instil the sense of a healthy lifestyle among those it was organised for.
To spread the message, street plays of 10-15 minutes duration were performed at various locations including all the terminals and car parking areas of the airport.
People turned up in large numbers to watch the plays following which packets of aniseed and sugar crystals were distributed.
DIAL also placed posters at strategic locations where staff movement takes place such as the administrative block, the passage outside terminal 1D and areas in Terminal 1A and 1D. Badges were distributed to the staff for general awareness and they were reminded of the adverse effects of tobacco chewing.
Influenced by the drive, many of the airport staff gave a commitment to at least try to kick the habit.
