An antique ashtadhatu idol of Lord Adinath has been seized by the Central Delhi Police. Six persons have been arrested in this connection.
The Special Staff of the Central Delhi Police received a tip-off recently that some persons were in possession of an antique idol and were looking for a prospective buyer. Following the information, a decoy customer was sent to them and a deal was struck for Rs.9 crore with two persons at Kamla Market on Friday. A little later, four persons came in a Maruti Swift car carrying the idol. All six persons were arrested by the police team and the idol was seized.
The accused were later identified as Rabinder Nath (25), George Parker (25), Mukesh Singh (27), Rahul (27), Ganpati (28) and Satbir Sharma (28).
According to the ASI officials, it was a priceless idol of the founder of Jainism, Lord Adinath, in “Padmasana mudra”, the police said.
During interrogation, the accused purportedly told the police that they had procured the idol from two persons – identified as John and Arif -- and that it was stolen from a temple in Rajasthan.
