Even as the south-west district police struggle to gather clues in multiple incidents of hair chopping in Chhawla, a 50-year-old woman’s hair was cut in her house on Tuesday afternoon in Palam.
Sadnagar resident Pushplata complained of pain in the head while talking to her sister on the phone and later spotted some hair on the floor.
Police informed
The matter was reported to the police. A team reached the spot and rushed her to a hospital. The woman was later discharged from the hospital.
A senior police officer said Ms. Pushplata had returned home after picking up her grandson’s from the playschool. Once home, she complained of pain in the head. Around the same time, her phone rang.
Ms. Pushplata soon got engrossed in the call from her Rewari-based sister. Incidentally, the sisters were discussing repeated instances of women’s hair being chopped off.
The officer confirmed that a case under Sections 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 452 (house trespass for hurt) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against unknown persons at Palam Police Station.
Groping in the dark
Meanwhile, the police are still groping in the dark in connection with the three cases reported from Chhawla’s Kangan Heri village two days ago.
Forensic teams
On Tuesday, forensic teams visited the residences of all three women, aged between 50 and 55 years, spoke to them and gathered more samples.
Earlier, all pairs of scissors and other tools which could potentially be used to chop hair were seized and sent for forensic tests as the police are yet to rule out an insider’s role.
The same is likely to be done in the latest case, even as the police said they are going to study the behavioural aspects of the women and consult psychologists for the job, if needed.
