Another snake makes its way into DU

August 08, 2015 12:00 am | Updated March 29, 2016 01:53 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

Another snake, this time a five-foot long Royal Snake, was rescued from Delhi University’s Khalsa College on Wednesday. Found in the college canteen, the snake was unhurt and later released into its natural habitat.

“With the rains in Delhi forcing animals to seek shelter, it really is raining reptiles in Wildlife SOS. Following close on the heels of a royal snake being rescued from an electricity box in South Campus, and a cobra being found caught in the netting of a football goal near Shivaji College, Wildlife SOS rescued its third snake in the last 72 hours from Delhi University,” said Kartick Satyanarayan, co-founder of the animal welfare service.

“The snake was identified as a royal snake, or diadem snake, which is a non-venomous species found commonly in the area. Such snakes will only bite if they feel threatened, which is why it is important for people to avoid cornering it or attempting to handle the situation themselves,” said a Wildlife SOS release.
