Another land grab case filed against ex-MLA in Odisha

April 03, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:39 am IST - BERHAMPUR:

Another land-grab case was lodged by the Berhampur police against arrested ex-MLA Ramesh Jena on Saturday and a country liquor outlet linked to him was sealed off.

This country liquor outlet was being run in the name Ramesh’s father Arakhita Jena, who has also been arrested for his active participation in the nefarious activities of the Congress leader. License of this liquor outlet in the Bhabinipur area had ended on March 31. Two illegal arms had been seized from this liquor outlet a few days back.

According to Berhampur Superintendent of Police Ashis Singh, the police have again sought a seven-day remand for Ramesh to interrogate him regarding his involvement in illegal arms trade and land grab cases registered in the Sadar police station of Berhampur.

Till now 11 illegal arms and live ammunition linked to Ramesh have been seized. It is suspected that Ramesh was involved in an illegal arms racket in Bihar and West Bengal through his now-arrested aide Santosh Behera.

Adding to the increasing number of cases against Ramesh, the police have registered a new case of land grabbing against Ramesh, his close aides Congress corporator of Berhampur R. Murali Mohan and Buna Sahu. They are charged with forceful acquisition of a plot of high value land at Nimakhandi on the outskirts of Berhampur.
