The Delhi Police have booked Janakpuri MLA from the Aam Aadmi Party Rajesh Rishi and a woman party volunteer for abetment to suicide and extortion after a Janakpuri resident Sunita (name changed) accused the two of harassing her.

The party volunteer Sheela (name changed) has accused Sunita’s husband of raping her and has filed a cross FIR, said Joint Commissioner of Police (South Western Range) Deependra Pathak.

Ms. Sunita’s statement was recorded at the hospital where she was admitted after allegedly consuming phenyl.

Both the cases were registered on July 20.

In her complaint, Ms. Sunita said that the Ms. Sheela has been forcing her husband to vacate their house for the past few months. During this, they were even forced to leave their quarters at the DESU colony in Janakpuri and shift to another apartment but the harassment continued.

The woman alleged that the AAP activist threatened her with dire consequences if she refused to comply with her demands and boasted about the support of Mr. Rishi.

Ms. Sunita has also alleged that Ms. Sheela’s nephew made obscene gestures directed at her.

Her statement further mentions that Ms. Sheela had even asked her to consume poison if she could not comply with their demand to hand over their claims to DESU apartment that was allotted to her husband.

Ms. Sunita claimed that the woman had also threatened to register a rape case against her husband and get her children murdered, if she did not comply to the demand, which included Rs. 25 lakh from Ms. Sunita’s husband.

‘Rishi named in FIR’

Mr. Pathak said that even though the primary allegations were not against Mr. Rishi, he remains an accused as he has been named in the FIR as someone who had supported Ms. Sheela in extorting money and harassing them.

Reacting to the development, Mr. Rishi said that he was unaware of the contents of the complaint. “I have never seen, heard or met the complainant ever. I would challenge her to provide any proof including a phone conversation that might have happened between me and her. The woman she is levelling the allegations against is a party worker and I know her,” said Mr. Rishi.

“We are going through the contents of both the FIRs. Since counter allegations have been made from the other side also, we have to examine everyone named,” said Mr. Pathak.

Another worker

Also on July 20, another FIR was registered against AAP worker Aman Dabas in Bawana for assaulting one of his relatives and threatening her with consequences using his clout in the party. He is the zonal president of the Bawana unit of the party.
