Annual Delhi festival begins with Waheeda Rehman’s Guide

With a retrospective of Waheeda Rehman as the theme, the seventh edition of the Habitat Film Festival began in New Delhi on Saturday with a screening of the yesteryear actor’s blockbuster Guide .

The nine-day festival will showcase the now 76-year-old actor’s major hits in her six-decade career including Pyaasa , Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam , Teesri Kasam and Chaudhvi Ka Chand .

100 years of cinema

“This year we are celebrating 100 years of Indian cinema and what better retrospective than to pay tribute to an actor who had a filmy sojourn of 50 years of her journey starting in 1955! That’s why a retrospective on Waheeda Rehman,” said Habitat World director programmes Vidyun Singh.

“I feel honoured that the Habitat Film festival is screening some of the favourite films of my career. I feel good when audience still show the same craze they used to when these films were released. These films are with those people whom I have enjoyed working like Guru Dutt and Dev Anand,” Waheeda told PTI .

Other films

Apart from some critically-acclaimed national films, this year’s Habitat Film Festival also brings a huge array of some award-winning regional films including Deool (Marathi), Anhe Ghore Da Daan (Punjab), Phijigee Mani (Manipuri) and Adi Madhyantam (Malayalam) among others. — PTI
