Social activist Anna Hazare was admitted to Medanta Medicity hospital in neighbouring Gurgaon on Sunday soon after he ended his 12-day-old fast on the Lokpal issue.
“He has lost over seven kg, and is very exhausted and weak. But there is nothing to worry about. His blood pressure is 126 and pulse rate is 90. He is mostly sleeping,” said Naresh Trehan, chairperson and managing director of the hospital, who also monitored the 74-year-old social activist's condition while he was on fast at Ramlila Maidan.
Dr. Trehan said Mr. Hazare has been put on a liquid diet of coconut water and honey to start with.
“We will also conduct tests on his kidneys, liver and other vital organs to check for any damage. He may have to stay in hospital for two-three days,” said the eminent cardiologist.
Earlier, the police had a tough time controlling the crowd outside the hospital. People had lined up in large numbers to catch a glimpse of Mr. Hazare.
Some even wanted to touch the anti-corruption crusader's feet and demanded that he come out of the vehicle that was carrying him to hospital.
