Anganwadi workers to go on strike

Members of Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Union on Monday announced a state-wide strike in support of their demands, under the aegies of the Centre of India Trade Unions.

The union had submitted a memorandum to Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar earlier this month and threatened to proceed on indefinite strike if their demands were not met.

Anganwadi workers from across the district gathered at Kamla Nehru Park here on Monday and held a meeting in support of their demands. The participants at the meeting demanded that Anganwadi workers be given a minimum wage of not less than ₹18,000. They accused the BJP government in Haryana and at the Centre of making anti-labour decisions.

The anganwadi workers have been protesting for long, but the government has not paid any heed to them, the union leaders alleged, adding that the government was also attacking the workers' right to protest.
