In yet another case of ragging, a first-year student of Amity University here was allegedly thrashed by his seniors on the campus on Thursday.

The victim, identified as Sahil Rawat (19), is pursuing hotel management at the university.

According to the police, Sahil was taking his practical examination when his seniors started disturbing him.

When Sahil protested, they allegedly abused him.

Rude shock

Sahil managed to flee and on the way, he encountered a faculty member called M.P. Verma, who reportedly tried to threaten the student with suspension when the latter told him about what had happened.

He added that the accused had been harassing his son for the last year.

“My son was being ragged by the same students for the last one year. Many a time, they demanded unwanted things from him. However, we did not report the matter to the university as it was nothing serious,” said Mr. Rawat.

‘Ragging ruled out’

Reacting to the incident, a spokesperson of Amity University said, “It was nothing major. The students fought over a trivial issue. Our student discipline committee has not found it to be a case of ragging.”

The spokesperson added that the university would cooperate the police in the investigation.

Noida Superintendent of Police Dinesh Yadav said an FIR had been registered.

“The victim’s father lodged a complaint at the Sector 39 police station, after which we lodged an FIR under appropriate sections,” Mr. Yadav said.

The officer added that they were trying to arrange for a CCTV footage of the incident.
