The online application procedure for admissions to Delhi University has begun, bringing with it numerous queries about the choice of course, sports/ECA entry, refund policy, and many others.

Alumni and current DU students have now come to the rescue of the applicants. Students are volunteering to counsel the applicants and help them understand the complexities of the admission procedure.

Dilemma over courses

Nitesh Kumar, a Master’s student at DU, said that though the new refund policy would solve many problems faced by the applicants, there was a lot of confusion regarding the choice of course. “My friends and I, who are from Bihar, faced a lot of problems during the admission procedure. We are counselling the current applicants so that they are clear about the courses they apply for and the procedure they have to follow,” says Nitesh. “There are numerous Facebook pages where applicants are looking for answers, but one-to-one counselling seems to be more effective when it comes to answering queries,” Mr. Kumar said.

The volunteers, who are yet to be provided with a help desk, are helping applicants through WhatsApp groups.

Centralised sports trials

Soni Narayan, an alumni of Bharti college, said that she had been getting a lot of queries from applicants in her locality. “There are a lot of changes in the online application procedure this year. I have been getting numerous queries regarding the Sports quota. Earlier, the applicant needed to go to specific colleges to give trials, but now centralised trials have been introduced. Many applicants have contacted me on Facebook after looking at my profile that says I studied at DU,” said Ms. Narayan.

The third day of the open house session also witnessed queries about registration. Some applicants encountered issues with the online applications as specific webpages didn’t open. The university answered this query saying that these pages would be accessible once the Board results are declared.
