He was found hanging from a tree near a railway station
Thirty-year-old Pawan, who was suspected to have shot his wife Deepti dead and injured his father-in-law Bhisham Das at the Karkardooma metro railway station here on Tuesday, allegedly hanged himself at Muradnagar in Uttar Pradesh a day later.
“Pawan was found hanging from a tree near a railway station in Muradnagar. A piece of paper with some information scribbled on it was found in his pocket and it helped in establishing his identity. The body was handed over to his family following a post-mortem at a hospital,” said a senior Delhi Police officer.
Though the preliminary investigation has suggested that Pawan was depressed due to the ongoing matrimonial discord between him and Deepti, who he had married in 2007, the police said it was also probing whether Pawan had carried out the attack at the behest of a “tantrik”. “We are probing whether Pawan had visited a “tantrik” in Ghaziabad before the incident and carried out the attacks at his instance,” said the officer, ruling out the role of any of Pawan’s friends in the incident.
Pawan, who was unemployed, was a resident of New Usmanpur.
His relationship with Deepti had soured soon after the marriage but the matter was resolved through mediation. But the two again fell out two years ago and Deepti went on to stay with her father in Chirag Dilli. Pawan then moved court seeking reunion and the matter was referred to the mediation cell.
Deepti and her father were returning from a hearing on Tuesday when Pawan shot them near the elevator at Karkardooma metro station.
In the ensuing melee, he had managed to flee from the spot.
Pawan and Deepti are survived by their two daughters.
Meanwhile, Mr. Das, who sustained bullet injuries in the chest, hand and leg, is said to be out of danger.
