Alleged mastermind of dacoity at Muthoot Finance nabbed

The alleged mastermind of a dacoity at Muthoot Finance in Pandav Nagar here earlier this year has been arrested. He is also wanted in connection with the murder of a collection agent during a robbery in the Mansarovar Park area.

The accused, Satpal, had met with an accident at Mohiddinpur in Meerut a few days and was under treatment at Shanti Nursing Home on Kanker Khera Road when a joint team of the Delhi Police Special Cell and the North-East District mounted raid acting on a tip-off on Saturday and arrested him.

Jewellery worth Rs.12 lakh robbed during the dacoity at Muthoot Finance, three receipts of a total of Rs.50,000 loan procured against the stolen jewellery, a .32 bore pistol and three live cartridges have been seized, the police said.

Satpal purportedly told the police that he had been staying on rent at Sainik Vihar in Meerut. He mortgaged the stolen jewellery at Muthoot Finance in Meerut and bought a motorcycle.

Satpal, a resident of Karawal Nagar, along with his accomplices had struck at a branch of Muthoot Finance, the non-banking finance company engaged in gold loan business, at Mandawali in broad daylight on May 10 and allegedly took away about 9 kg of gold and Rs.1.5 lakh in cash. Satpal was posing as a Sikh during the dacoity to hide his identity.

Three of the accused, Rahul, Mahender and Satish, were arrested by the Crime Branch in this connection on May 22 and 70 gm of gold was recovered. Later, the East Delhi Police arrested Raj Kishore and Kamal and recovered 1.6 kg of gold from them. Rohtash, a resident of Karawal Nagar, and Vineet, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, are absconding.

In the Mansarovar Park case, Satpal along with his accomplices waylaid Vinod in Ram Nagar on January 31 and shot him dead after robbing him of Rs.10 lakh. Vinod, a resident of Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh, worked as a recovery agent for copper trader Dilip Sharma. Vinod was carrying the money to Mansarovar Park on the day of incident. Two of the accused, Raj Kishore and Nissar, were earlier arrested in this connection. Rohtash, who is also wanted in Muthoot Finance robbery, and his brother Puran are wanted in this case.

Satpal, who repaired computers in Mayur Vihar, took to crime to make easy money. He is married and has one child. His father is a farmer.
