Eight women have been arrested here for their alleged involvement in thefts and snatching incidents, the police said on Saturday.

The accused, who are members of 'Shabana gang', belong to Rajgarh district in Madhya Pradesh and have committed more than 100 thefts, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Vijay Kumar said.

Robbed elderly woman

On Wednesday, the accused allegedly robbed an elderly woman in front of a bank in Tilak Nagar.

The bank's security guard apprehended one of the accused women and informed the police, the DCP said, adding her other accomplices managed to flee.

Following her interrogation, the seven other women were nabbed from their rented accommodation in south-east Delhi's Govindpuri, the officer said.

‘Over 100 cases’

Since the accused were aware about the arrest of one of their gang members, they had sent the looted money to their village in Madhya Pradesh, he said. The accused were identified as Varsha (25), Rani (35), Pushpa and Seema (both 35), Sonam (27), Bindiya (27), Shabana (40) and Sangita (35), Kumar said.

The accused women were involved in more than 100 cases of thefts from marriage ceremonies. They also used to target elderly women.

The gang even used to burgle shops at night, the police officer said.
