‘All NGOs should not be blamed’

September 06, 2015 12:00 am | Updated March 28, 2016 03:41 pm IST - New Delhi:

Ramon Magsaysay awardee Anshu Gupta today came out in defence of NGOs, saying the government should not “single out” the entire sector for the “mistake” committed by an NGO.

Referring to the Centre’s recent crackdown on around 9,000 NGOs, Gupta said, “If somebody (NGO) is committing a mistake then it should be punished. But the entire sector should not be defamed because of the wrongdoings of a particular entity'.” Gupta was felicitated by the Indian Institute of Mass communication Alumni Association. Gupta, who founded ‘Goonj’, which works in the field of recycling used cloths, was awarded the Ramon Magasasay Award for his effort in recycling used cloths to make sanitary pads and other purposes. —PTI
