An alert has been sounded in Delhi following intelligence inputs suggesting movement of suspected terror elements in the run-up to Independence Day celebrations on August 15.
At a meeting chaired by Police Commissioner B.S. Bassi, senior police officers had reviewed security arrangements for Independence Day. In coordination with intelligence agencies, a close watch has been kept on suspicious activities in the city. The issue of intelligence- sharing, and other counter-terror measures such as tenant verification, was recently taken up during an inter-State coordination meeting attended by police officers of the neighbouring States.
The police are being provided with extra forces for deployment at vital government places as well as major places of worship and markets. Surprise checks are also being carried out at temporary police pickets. The police have also held meetings with market and hotel associations asking them to keep an eye on any suspicious persons.
Vehicle dealers have also been asked to properly verify the identity of their clients and keep their records before finalising any deal. Routine checks are also being conducted at cyber cafes to ascertain whether records of visitors are being maintained as per the directives.
