Akhilesh to visit Germany

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav is all set for a trip to Germany where he will be leading a team of senior bureaucrats to explore possibilities of making the State a popular tourist destination. Starting on March 4, Mr. Yadav will be in Berlin for five days where he will take part in world’s leading travel trade show which is being attended by major tour and travel operators, besides experts from tourism industry across the globe.

“In the past one year, Mr. Yadav has been keen on promoting Uttar Pradesh as a major tourist destination among Indians as well as foreigners. He has been to the Netherlands from where he got the idea of promoting cycling among tourists by connecting monuments and other places of importance with cycle tracks...The project is currently on in Lucknow and will be implemented in Agra and Kanpur,” said a senior UP government official who will be part of the delegation.

Uttar Pradesh recently held two major tourism events, one in Agra and another in Lucknow, with the aim to making tourism destinations in the State popular among visitors, particularly among foreign tourists. Both these events were attended by the Chief Minister. Mr. Yadav has also formed a high-level committee specially for promotion of tourism.

“Mr. Yadav believes that tourism is one sector that can have a major impact in the State economy by generating jobs, giving boost to local economy and local crafts, and earn revenue,” the official added.
