Residents of Ajmeri Gate and adjoining areas have approached the Delhi Traffic Police seeking a pre-paid auto-rickshaw booth to ensure that the drivers do not refuse to take passengers.
M. Nafis, the general secretary of non-government organisation Youth Service Mission, said a 58-year-old cancer patient, Shafiquddin, passed away as he could not be rushed to Lohia Hospital in time on Monday morning. “There is an auto-rickshaw stand at Ajmeri Gate but none of the drivers agreed to take him to hospital. These auto-rickshaws offer services mainly to the businessmen visiting market places in the area,” said Mr. Nafis.
The areas affected by poor availability of auto-rickshaws include Gali Shahtara, Kucha Pandit, Lal Kuan, Sitaram Bazar and Hauz Qazi, said Mr. Nafis. “We have handed over a memorandum to the traffic police requesting to set up a pre-paid booth in the area for the residents,” he added.
