Ajit Jogi denies making statement against Rahul

March 19, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 11:36 am IST - RAIPUR:

The former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Ajit Jogi on Wednesday denied saying in an interview to a web portal that there would be a “possible exodus” of senior Congress leaders if Rahul Gandhi becomes party president.

In the interview published on Tuesday, the Congress leader is quoted a saying that “there is a possibility that several known State leaders could leave the Congress if Rahul Gandhi takes over as party president because they harbour doubts about his capabilities to lead and revive the party.”

In a press statement, Mr. Jogi said, “ …I did not even mention this. On the contrary, the entire spirit and tenor of my interview is based on the premise that it will be in the interest of the party for Rahul Gandhi to take over as president as early as possible. I repeat that in my opinion nobody of any consequence would ever think of leaving the party after he [Mr. Gandhi] takes over as Congress president.”
